Nigeria's NIN enrollment reaches 117 million with Lagos and Kano states leading in registrations. Despite progress, some regions like Bayelsa and Ebonyi show low registration numbers. The NIN initiative is key to enhancing security and improving access to government services.

As of February 2025, Nigeria’s National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) reported a significant milestone, with over 117 million Nigerians successfully enrolled in the National Identity Number (NIN) system. Lagos State leads with the highest number of registrations, totaling over 12.6 million, followed by Kano with 10.2 million. Despite these achievements, some states, including Bayelsa and Ebonyi, are lagging in registration numbers, recording the lowest enrollments.

The NIN initiative has become crucial for enhancing national security, access to government services, and economic development, but challenges persist in certain regions. The federal government continues to prioritize expanding coverage, to ensure every citizen is accounted for in the system.

The initiative aims to streamline governmental operations and improve service delivery across Nigeria.
