Lagos's traditional ruler, Chief Babalola Shabi, revealed that crossdresser Bobrisky smuggled ATM cards into Kirikiri prison, using them to conduct N35 million worth of transactions to secure preferential treatment. He exposed a ring of corruption involving prison officials, leading to an investigation by the EFCC.
Chief Babalola Shabi, the Baale of Kirikiri Town in Lagos, has exposed a serious prison scandal involving crossdresser Bobrisky. The Baale alleges that Bobrisky smuggled eight Automated Teller Machine (ATM) cards into Kirikiri prison and used them to transfer N35 million through Point of Sale (POS) operators. This was reportedly done to bribe prison officials for VIP treatment during his stay.
Shabi made this revelation at a town hall meeting held by the Lagos State Police Command on April 5, part of the National Police Week celebrations. According to Shabi, Bobrisky didn’t fully serve his sentence in the custodial facility but instead stayed in a private apartment outside the prison, thanks to collaboration with corrupt prison staff.
The traditional ruler further explained how the scandal was uncovered. After inviting POS operators from the area to his palace, Shabi alerted the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), which traced the illicit transactions. This led to the identification of a corrupt network within the prison system.
Shabi also confirmed that the building where Bobrisky allegedly stayed has been demolished, and both the Department of State Services (DSS) and EFCC have questioned him in connection with the case. His account contradicts an earlier report by a National Assembly panel, which suggested that Bobrisky remained in the prison throughout his sentence.
