Two men sentenced to 46 years for impersonating EFCC officials, executing fake court orders in a fraud attempt in Lagos.

In a stern ruling, Justice O.O. Abike-Fadipe of the Special Offences Court in Ikeja has handed down a 46-year jail sentence to Ugwu Pascal Chijioke and Ibrahim Sadia Adekunle for impersonating operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) while executing a fake court order.

The duo was re-arraigned by the EFCC's Lagos Zonal Command on an amended five-count charge, including impersonation, attempted fraud, possession of false documents, and unlawfully wearing EFCC uniforms.

According to the charges, Chijioke and Adekunle had falsely represented themselves as EFCC officials and attempted to obtain property from one Oriyomi Johnson by presenting a purported court order to seize and seal an apartment in the Lekki-Ikoyi area.

The brazen impersonation of law enforcement officials highlights the alarming rise of such fraudulent activities in Nigeria's commercial capital. The harsh sentence handed down by Justice Abike-Fadipe underscores the judiciary's determination to crack down on individuals who undermine the integrity of state institutions.

The EFCC has consistently warned the public to be wary of imposters seeking to exploit the agency's reputation for personal gain. This case serves as a stern reminder of the severe consequences awaiting those who engage in such nefarious activities
