Dr. Olufemi Olaleye, the Medical Director of the Optimal Cancer Care Foundation, has been sentenced to life imprisonment for raping his wife's niece. Justice Rahman Oshodi of the Ikeja Sexual Offenses and Domestic Violence Court delivered the verdict on Tuesday.
The judge found the victim's testimony and the medical professional's examination to be credible evidence against Olaleye. He also cited Olaleye's confessional statement and the exchange of WhatsApp and email messages with his wife as incriminating evidence.
Justice Oshodi established that the prosecution had successfully proven its case beyond a reasonable doubt, with all evidence corroborating the victim's account. Olaleye was charged with defiling and sexually contacting a 15-year-old minor, offenses alleged to have occurred between March 2020 and November 2021.
The defendant, who had pleaded not guilty to the charges, was arraigned on November 30, 2022. The prosecution presented seven witnesses, including the defendant's wife, the alleged survivor, a child forensic specialist, a police inspector, a medical examiner, and a police officer. One witness was withdrawn during the trial.
The court's decision sends a strong message against sexual offenses and violence, emphasizing the importance of holding perpetrators accountable.
