Heavy rain in Lagos on Wednesday morning caused widespread flooding, submerging homes and major roads. Residents shared their experiences online using the trending hashtag "Dear HR," highlighting the impact on daily life and work commutes, while authorities worked to address the situation.

Heavy rain in Lagos on Wednesday morning led to widespread flooding, affecting many parts of the city and major roads. The downpour, which began around 2 am, left numerous areas like Surulere, Ijesha, Okokomaiko, Ibeju-Lekki, Gbagada, Oshodi, Lekki, Ikoyi, Ogba, Ikeja, and Ajah underwater.

Major thoroughfares, including the Iyana-Oworonshoki link to the Third Mainland Bridge, LASU/Iba-Ojo road, Awolowo Road in Ikeja, Apapa-Gbagada expressway, and the Lagos-Ibadan highway, were heavily flooded, disrupting daily activities for many residents.

The floods resulted in submerged cars and inundated homes, preventing many students and workers from leaving their houses. Tokunbo Wahab, Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, announced that a team has been deployed to clear the "flash floods" in specific areas of Lagos. The flooding also stranded motorists and commuters in the Alagbado and Ifo areas of Ogun state, compounding the difficulties.

On social media, Nigerians voiced their frustrations and shared their experiences using the trending hashtag "Dear HR." Many used humor to cope with the situation, writing messages to their HR departments explaining their inability to get to work. Posts highlighted the dire conditions, with people humorously pleading for understanding and flexibility from their employers.

The "Dear HR" trend captured the widespread impact of the flood, reflecting the resilience and humor of Lagosians. Despite the challenges, some managed to reach their workplaces, while others appreciated the work-from-home allowances granted by their companies.
