The Lagos State Government has issued an advisory to motorists urging them to avoid the Independence Bridge due to severe traffic congestion. The bridge, which has been closed for emergency repairs by the Federal Government, has caused gridlock, particularly during peak hours, affecting commuters traveling through the area.
In a statement from the Ministry of Transportation, motorists heading to Victoria Island from Ahmadu Bello Way have been advised to use alternative routes. They should proceed via Ozumba Mbadiwe Avenue, then turn onto Akin Adesola Street, and follow this to Falomo Roundabout. From there, they can connect to Obafemi Awolowo Road, which leads to Ring Road for smoother travel.
Those traveling to the Third Mainland Bridge from Ahmadu Bello Way should follow a similar route, diverting through Alfred Rewane Road and Osborne Road before accessing Ring Road. Additionally, commuters heading to Inner Marina and CMS should follow Ozumba Mbadiwe Avenue, connecting through the Falomo Roundabout, then taking Obafemi Awolowo Road and proceeding through J.K. Randle Road or King George V Road.
The government has also encouraged drivers to follow the guidance of traffic management personnel deployed to strategic points to help manage the flow of traffic. Commuters are advised to plan their journeys and be prepared for delays as the repairs continue.
