De Renaissance Patriots Foundation has rejected Minister Ayodele Olawande’s claim that Seyi Tinubu is fit for the 2027 Lagos gubernatorial race. The group emphasized Lagos' capacity for self-governance, denounced external influences, and urged Tinubu to contest in states of his maternal heritage, affirming Lagosians’ readiness to defend their autonomy.
A Lagos-based group, De Renaissance Patriots Foundation, has criticized recent remarks by Youth Development Minister, Ayodele Olawande, suggesting Seyi Tinubu is fit to govern Lagos State in 2027. The group dismissed the statement as personal and unreflective of Lagosians' sentiments across the state’s five divisions: Epe, Badagry, Lagos, Ikeja, and Ikorodu.
In a statement, the group asserted that Seyi Tinubu, a prominent figure often linked to political discussions, cannot claim heritage from any Lagos division. They argued that Lagos has capable indigenes to occupy leadership positions and does not require “outsiders” for governance.
The group urged Seyi Tinubu not to heed the encouragement of those advocating for his candidacy, stressing that Lagosians would resist any attempts to impose him as governor. They pointed out that Lagos is no longer a state where external influences can dictate its political future, emphasizing their readiness to oppose such moves.
Furthermore, they suggested that if Seyi Tinubu desires to run for office, he should consider states such as Oyo or Osun, where his maternal roots lie. The group reiterated that Lagos boasts numerous qualified sons and daughters capable of governance and that Nigeria is not prepared for “imperial rule.”
They also called on leaders and stakeholders to respect Lagos' political identity and avoid decisions that undermine its sovereignty. The statement reflects growing concerns about political dynamics and a call for transparent, inclusive leadership in the state.
