The Lagos State Police Command has reassured the public of a thorough investigation into the tragic death of Adetunji Opayele, co-founder of the tech startup Bumpa. The 31-year-old lost his life following a motorcycle accident on March 4, 2025, along Ozumba Mbadiwe Road in Victoria Island.

According to reports, the accident occurred when a vehicle driven by Biola Adams-Odutayo, a healthcare professional, failed to yield while entering the expressway, colliding with Opayele. Witnesses alleged that the driver refused to assist the injured tech entrepreneur, citing concerns over blood stains in her vehicle.

Bystanders eventually transported Opayele to a hospital, but he was reportedly denied immediate medical attention. He was later admitted to another facility, where he was pronounced dead after midnight.

Amid growing public outrage, Lagos police spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin stated X, confirming that the case was diligently investigated. He revealed that Adams-Odutayo was charged with reckless and careless driving, leading to Opayele’s death. She was arraigned at Tinubu Magistrate Court on March 12, 2025, and subsequently granted bail. The case is set to resume on April 16.

Hundeyin reaffirmed the police force's commitment to transparency and justice, assuring that due process will be followed. Opayele’s tragic passing has sparked widespread calls for better road safety measures and emergency response policies to prevent similar incidents.

Authorities urge the public to remain patient as the legal process unfolds.
