In a heartbreaking incident in Lagos State, a primary six pupil named Joshua tragically lost his life after being swept away by floodwaters in the Ikosi, Ketu area. Joshua, returning home from school with classmates, fell into a drainage canal due to submerged planks. Despite efforts by eyewitness Oloyede to rescue him, Joshua succumbed to the strong currents.


Joshua's mother, a fruit seller, mourned her only child, lamenting that he died hungry and cold, just before his common entrance exams. The community, through local youth leader Oloyede, criticized the Lagos State government for neglecting drainage projects, exacerbating flood risks.
