A land dispute in Badagry, Lagos, took a tragic turn as a former police officer allegedly shot and killed two of his family members and a neighbor. The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, has left the Yovoyan community in shock.
According to eyewitnesses, the attack happened around 2:00 a.m. when two armed men entered the Atideka family compound. David Atideka, a survivor, recounted how he narrowly escaped after seeing the intruders. His wife was shot in his absence, and upon rushing to inform his elder brother, he found him already dead.
David alleged that one of the attackers was his brother, an ex-police officer, who had been involved in a longstanding land dispute with the family. The suspect had previously been arrested over the matter but was later released on bail. The case was reportedly awaiting a final court judgment this Thursday.
A third victim, Muji Onilude, a resident of a neighboring community, was also killed. His son, Yusuf Onilude, claimed he saw a gunman fleeing but was unable to catch him.
Community leaders have condemned the attack, urging authorities to ensure justice is served. While the suspect’s son denied his father’s involvement, police have launched an investigation and taken the victims’ bodies to the General Hospital in Badagry.
The tragic killings have heightened tensions in the community, with residents calling for urgent intervention to prevent further violence.
