The Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) has addressed allegations by reality star Chioma Ikokwu regarding the demolition of her property in Lekki. Chioma, known for her role in The Real Housewives of Lagos, claimed LASBCA officials denied her access to the site and used police intimidation.
According to Chioma, LASBCA served her notices to vacate the premises, which housed her hair business and restaurant. She alleged officials prevented her from retrieving her belongings after demolition commenced.
In response, Adu Adegoke, LASBCA’s assistant director, clarified that the demolished structures were illegal attachments to a building. LASBCA General Manager Gbolahan Oki stated that all required notices, including “convention,” “seal-off,” and “quit” notices, were duly served. He emphasized that the demolition occurred due to the owner's failure to secure a required permit, violating Lagos building codes.
Oki further alleged that occupants resisted LASBCA officials during enforcement and accused Chioma of attempting to mislead the public with a viral video. The agency maintained that the video misrepresented facts to garner sympathy and distract from the violations.
Reaffirming LASBCA’s commitment to safe urban development, Oki urged the public to disregard misleading narratives and support the government’s efforts toward a safer and more organized Lagos.
The agency pledged to continue enforcing building regulations to ensure sustainable and lawful development across the state.
