In a storm of criticism, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu faces scrutiny for approving ₦3.75 billion in state funds for perfumes and rechargeable fans, as revealed in recent procurement records.

This comes on the heels of contentious approvals, including ₦7.5 million for liquid fragrance replacement in the governor's office and ₦3 billion for fans in the deputy governor's office.

Other notable allocations by the Public Procurement Agency include over ₦440 million for a bulletproof SUV, ₦18.5 million for distributing chickens, ₦152 million for water supply restoration at the Iduganran palace, and ₦581 million for the renovation of Saint Andrews Anglican Church.

The contracts have drawn criticism from public figures, including the 2023 governorship candidate of the Action Democratic Congress, Funsho Doherty, who penned an open letter urging a review.

Social crusaders condemn the government's perceived insensitivity to citizens' struggles, highlighting the stark disparity between extravagant spending and the prevailing economic hardships.
