After a viral video showed her being bullied, student Namitra Bwala has sued Lead British International School in Abuja for N500M, alleging negligence in ensuring student safety.

Namitra Bwala, the student whose harrowing experience of being bullied by her classmates was captured in a viral video, has initiated legal action against Lead British International School in Gwarimpa, Abuja. The lawsuit, filed at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, seeks damages amounting to a staggering N500 million from the educational institution for its alleged failure to provide a safe and conducive learning environment.

The viral video, which sparked widespread outrage and condemnation, depicted Bwala being subjected to physical and emotional abuse by her peers, raising grave concerns about the school's ability to ensure the safety and well-being of its students. In one disturbing clip, a female student was seen repeatedly slapping Bwala while asking, "Who broke my heart?" Another video showed a male classmate claiming to have "spoilt her relationship."

According to the public statement issued by Marvin Omorogbe, the founding partner of the law firm representing Bwala, the legal action aims to hold the school accountable for its negligent conduct regarding the highly publicized incident. The lawsuit demands that the school issue a public apology to Bwala in two national daily newspapers and pay her N500 million as general damages for breaching its duty of care and failing to prevent the assault, torment, emotional distress, and breach of privacy she endured while under the school's custody and supervision.

The law firm emphasized its client's hopes that the lawsuit would catalyze meaningful changes and prompt the implementation of adequate measures to prevent similar occurrences within the school premises. "Our client hopes that this lawsuit will bring about drastic changes and adequate measures to prevent a reoccurrence of similar issues in the school," the statement added.
