Rivers State High Court issues injunction barring 25 lawmakers from claiming membership in the House of Assembly. Defecting from PDP to APC led to legal challenge by Factional Speaker and others. Legal order prevents lawmakers from legislative activities pending resolution of the case, underscoring political turmoil in the state.

In a recent development in Rivers State's political arena, a High Court in Port Harcourt has issued an interlocutory injunction restraining 25 lawmakers from identifying as members of the Rivers State House of Assembly.

Led by Rt. Hon. Martins Amaewhule and aligned with Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Chief Nyesom Wike, these lawmakers defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on December 13, 2023.

The lawsuit, filed by Factional Speaker Rt. Hon. Victor Oko-Jumbo and two others, challenge the legitimacy of these lawmakers' membership following their political switch.

The court order bars them from conducting legislative business or meeting at the House of Assembly quarters pending the resolution of the case. This legal saga adds another layer to the ongoing power struggle between Nyesom Wike and Gover Fubara
