Residents of Jakande Housing Estate in Lekki, Eti-Osa Local Government Area, Lagos State, are urging Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to address the life-threatening issue of incessant flooding in their community. Recently, a resident named Mr. Shakiru tragically died while attempting to clear blocked gutters following a severe flood. As the rainy season intensifies, the community fears the worst is yet to come.
Alhaja Fausat Olawale, a concerned resident, appealed to the governor to take immediate action to prevent further casualties and property damage. She stressed that residents are unable to sleep peacefully during rainy nights due to the flood risk. Taofeek Ibrahim, another resident, expressed grief over Shakiru's death and called on both the governor and the chairman of Eti-Osa Local Government to implement a lasting solution to the recurring floods.
Ibrahim highlighted the annual nature of the problem but noted that this year's flooding is particularly severe. With the peak of the rainy season approaching in July, residents are anxious and demand urgent intervention to avert more deaths and destruction of properties.
