Nigeria's Super Eagles were reportedly stranded at Libya's Al Abraq Airport before their AFCON 2025 Qualifier match. Following a diversion and alleged refusal of transportation, the Nigerian team faces delays and challenges reaching Benghazi. The incident sparked outrage online, with calls for CAF intervention.

Nigeria's Super Eagles have reportedly been detained by Libyan authorities at Al Abraq Airport as they prepared for the second leg of their AFCON 2025 Qualifier against Libya. Following their 1-0 victory over Libya in Uyo, the Super Eagles traveled to Libya on Sunday for their fourth Group D match, only to face an unexpected challenge upon arrival.

According to sources from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), the team's plane was diverted to Al Abraq, over two hours away from their intended destination, Benghazi. Upon arrival, they found themselves stranded as the Libyan authorities failed to arrange transportation to Benghazi. The NFF's attempts to secure alternative transport were reportedly blocked, with the airport gates locked to prevent the team from leaving the premises.

Videos shared by the NFF on social media show Nigerian players and officials trying to negotiate with local airport authorities, highlighting the challenges and delays the team has faced.

An anonymous source close to the team suggested this action might be a deliberate attempt to wear out the players before the match. The Super Eagles currently lead Group D with seven points, followed by Benin Republic with six, Rwanda with two, and Libya trailing with one point.

Social media users have reacted strongly, with some expressing outrage at Libya’s actions and calling on the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to intervene. Others criticized the situation, calling it an example of disrespect toward Nigeria. Amid the mixed reactions, many Nigerians are urging CAF to address the matter swiftly.
