The Libya Football Federation has appealed to CAF against a $50,000 fine and a forfeited match in the 2025 AFCON qualifiers against Nigeria. CAF ruled against Libya after significant travel issues led to the cancellation of the match, impacting both teams’ standings in the competition.

The Libya Football Federation (LFF) is contesting the Confederation of African Football's (CAF) decision regarding their forfeiture in the 2025 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Nigeria. This appeal comes after CAF canceled the match, initially scheduled for October 15 in Benghazi, due to significant travel issues faced by the Nigerian team. The Super Eagles encountered a redirected flight, enduring over 18 hours of delays, which hampered their return for the match that Nigeria had previously won 1-0 in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

In its ruling, CAF awarded the Super Eagles a 3-0 victory and imposed a $50,000 fine on the Libyan football body for violating multiple regulations. CAF’s disciplinary board, chaired by Ousmane Kane, stated that the LFF's actions breached specific articles of the Africa Cup of Nations Regulations and the CAF Disciplinary Code.

In response, the LFF is arguing that the penalty is unjust, claiming it unfairly places them at the bottom of Group D in the qualification standings. To bolster their case, the federation has retained Tunisian lawyer Ali Abbas to represent them in the appeal.
