The Church of England's governing body is set to debate new commitments on homosexuality and same-sex couples in an acknowledgment of "profound disagreement" on the matter.
Despite not allowing same-sex marriage, the church has expressed a commitment to inclusivity and apologized for past "hostile and homophobic responses." Last November, the Synod narrowly approved trial services to bless same-sex couples, revealing internal divisions.
The upcoming meeting, scheduled for Feb. 23-27 in London, will address the need for unity amid disagreements.
The Synod will also discuss racial justice and the Church Commissioners' response to research on historic transatlantic slavery, marking significant considerations for the Anglican Communion.
