The Nigeria women’s basketball team was denied entry to the Paris Olympics opening ceremony boat due to overcrowding. They spent the night in Paris and missed a practice session. Nigeria plays Australia on Monday.
The Nigeria women’s basketball team faced an unexpected obstacle at the Paris Olympics opening ceremony when they were denied entry to the delegation's boat by a Nigerian official.
According to a source who spoke to the Associated Press on condition of anonymity, the team was turned away because there were too many people on board. After being denied entry, the team headed to the athletes' village. The rest of the Nigerian delegation shared a boat with Niger and Norway.
Despite having received logistics for the event beforehand, the team traveled from Lille, where the preliminary basketball rounds are being held, to Paris in a bus caravan with a police escort.
They spent the night in Paris and missed their scheduled morning practice session in Lille. Nigeria is set to play its opening game on Monday against Australia. This incident has sparked concerns about the management and logistical coordination of the Nigerian delegation.
