Nigerian football stars Ademola Lookman and William Troost-Ekong have been omitted from the final selection for the prestigious 2024 FIFPRO Men’s World XI. The two, who were initially shortlisted earlier this year, missed the cut despite their strong performances in the global football scene.

The FIFPRO Men’s World XI celebrates the best players worldwide, with over 28,000 professional footballers across 70 nations casting their votes. Players nominate their top choices for goalkeepers, defenders, midfielders, and forwards from a list of 250 candidates. The final XI comprises the highest-voted goalkeeper, three defenders, three midfielders, three forwards, and an additional outfield player.

While Lookman and Troost-Ekong were not included, global icons like Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo secured their places on the shortlist. Ballon d’Or winner Rodri, alongside finalists Vinícius Júnior and Jude Bellingham, also features in the selection, reflecting their outstanding form this year.
