Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye returned to the national team after a year-long absence, featuring in Nigeria's 2-1 loss to Rwanda. Despite the result, the Udinese shot-stopper expressed pride in donning the Nigerian jersey again. Okoye aims to reclaim the number one spot through consistent performances at the club level.

Maduka Okoye, the Super Eagles goalkeeper, expressed his joy and gratitude after returning to the national team for Nigeria’s 2-1 defeat to Rwanda. Okoye, who made his debut for Nigeria in 2019, faced criticism after a costly error in the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations, which led to his social media retreat.

His performance at Watford also saw him relegated to the bench, but a fresh start at Serie A club Udinese revived his career. Okoye was called up to replace Stanley Nwabali, who had to leave camp due to a family loss.

Despite Nigeria's loss, Okoye shared his pride in representing Nigeria, stating that it remains a great honor. Although Nwabali has been the first choice recently, Okoye is hopeful that consistent performances at Udinese could give him another shot at the number-one spot with the Super Eagles in the future.
