In a strategic move aimed at enhancing the operational efficiency and security apparatus of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Chairman Ola Olukoyede has announced the appointment of Michael Nzekwe as his Chief of Staff. This appointment comes amidst a broader restructuring initiative that sees significant changes within the agency.
Under the visionary leadership of Olukoyede, all zonal commands of the EFCC have been elevated to departments, reflecting a redefined organizational structure geared towards optimal performance.
A statement by EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale highlights the pivotal upgrades, including the transformation of the security unit into a full-fledged department with a designated Chief Security Officer.
The announcement also heralds the appointment of 14 new directors, each tasked with overseeing the operations of the restructured zonal commands.
This strategic deployment of leadership underscores the chairman's commitment to decentralization and local empowerment in combating financial malfeasance across Nigeria.
Leading the charge in this transformation is Michael Nzekwe, a seasoned investigator and legal expert with a distinguished career within the EFCC. With extensive experience across various departments, including legal and prosecution, operations, internal affairs, Servicom, and asset forfeiture, Nzekwe brings a wealth of expertise to his new role.
Notably, Nzekwe's tenure as the commander of the Ilorin zonal command and his exemplary service as a Course One officer underscore his qualifications for the position of Chief of Staff. His extensive training, both domestically and internationally, including the prestigious Advance Defence Intelligence Officers Course organized by the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA), further solidifies his credentials as a leader in the fight against corruption.
In addition to Nzekwe's appointment, the creation of a new department within the executive chairman's office, headed by former Makurdi zonal commander Mr. Friday Ebelo, signals a strategic realignment of resources and responsibilities at the highest echelons of the EFCC. Ebelo's dual role as Director and Coordinator of Special Duties underscores the commission's holistic approach to addressing the multifaceted challenges of financial crime.
