Seyi Makinde, Governor of Oyo State, boldly claims the ability to become Nigeria’s President but insists that timing and party unity are essential for his potential candidacy in 2027. He distances himself from current coalitions and reiterates his commitment to focus on Oyo State's development for now.

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has expressed his confidence in his ability to lead Nigeria, stating that he has what it takes to become the country's president. Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today program, Makinde emphasized that while he believes in his capacity for the highest office, he is focusing on the current responsibilities he has as governor.

Makinde, who is serving his second term, said that the 2027 presidential race would be defined not by a contest between political parties, but by the choice of Nigerians and their desire for a change. While he did not rule out a presidential bid, Makinde made it clear that his decision would depend on his party's needs and the state of the country at the time. He also expressed that any potential run would be carefully considered, emphasizing preparation and accountability.

Regarding the ongoing political dynamics within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Makinde highlighted that internal unity within the party was crucial before any serious national ambitions could be pursued. His comments came amid a broader political conversation about alliances, with some of his party members supporting the formation of coalitions. However, Makinde and other PDP governors have rejected these coalitions, stressing that a strong, united PDP is essential for future success. For now, Makinde remains committed to improving Oyo State and delivering on his promises to the people.
