Just days after being pardoned by Osun Governor Ademola Adeleke, ex-convict Sunday Omisakin was arrested for alleged burglary and theft in Osogbo. Charged with stealing a plasma TV worth N600,000, he was denied bail and remanded in custody. The case highlights challenges in addressing recidivism and societal reintegration.

Sunday Omisakin, a recently pardoned ex-convict, has been remanded in Ilesa Correctional Facility for alleged burglary and theft, just eight days after receiving a pardon from Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke. Omisakin, previously jailed for a minor offence, was included in the governor's December 26, 2024, the prerogative of mercy list.

On January 3, 2025, Omisakin was accused of breaking into the home of Shittu Damilare in Osogbo’s Al-Medinat area and stealing a plasma television valued at N600,000. The charges, including burglary and theft, were presented before the Osun State Magistrate Court in Osogbo, presided over by Magistrate Adekanmi Adeyeba.

The police prosecutor, Inspector Kayode Adeoye, stated that the crime violated sections 411(1)(2), 363, and 390(9) of the Osun State Criminal Code. Omisakin pleaded not guilty but was denied bail and remanded in custody. The case has been adjourned to February 2025 for further hearing.

This incident has sparked discussions about the justice system and the effectiveness of pardon programs, with many questioning the circumstances surrounding Omisakin’s swift return to crime.
