Manchester City midfielder Matheus Nunes was arrested in Madrid after an incident at the La Riviera nightclub in the early hours of September 8. The 26-year-old Portuguese player reportedly seized a mobile phone from a 58-year-old man who attempted to take his photo without consent in the restroom.

According to Spanish newspaper El Mundo, the altercation took place around 5:30 AM. Nunes allegedly took the phone in anger and refused to return it. Local police were summoned to the club after the man reported the incident, and they confirmed that Nunes still had the device when they arrived.

Following his arrest, Nunes was handcuffed and taken to a police station in the Arganzuela district of Madrid for questioning. He was released a few hours later after a lawyer intervened. The police confirmed that a Portuguese national was arrested on suspicion of stealing a mobile phone, but they did not specify whether the individual was indeed the footballer.

Sources indicate that Nunes may face charges related to the incident, which is expected to be resolved through a court trial. At the time of the incident, he was reportedly in Madrid with friends, having been omitted from Portugal’s national team call-up for international duty.
