Gospel singer Mercy Chinwo has sued social media critic VeryDarkMan (VDM) for N1.1 billion over defamation. The lawsuit follows VDM’s claims that Chinwo withheld earnings from her former label, EeZee Tee. Chinwo demands damages, retractions, and apologies, intensifying her ongoing dispute with the record label.

Nigerian gospel artist Mercy Chinwo has taken legal action against social media critic VeryDarkMan (VDM), demanding N1.1 billion in damages over alleged defamation. The lawsuit follows VDM’s claims that Chinwo failed to remit earnings to her former record label, EeZee Concept, before leaving the company.

Chinwo’s lawyer, Pelumi Olajengbesi, stated in a court filing dated March 3 that VDM’s remarks were false, malicious, and damaging to the singer’s reputation. He argued that the critic had no personal involvement in the dispute between Chinwo and EeZee Concept’s CEO, Ezekiel Onyedikachukwu, yet presented the matter as if he had firsthand knowledge.

The lawsuit seeks N1 billion in general damages, an additional N100 million in punitive damages, and N25 million to cover legal costs. Chinwo is also requesting that the court compel VDM to delete his posts, issue a public apology, and publish retractions in four national newspapers for two weeks.

This legal battle adds to the ongoing feud between Chinwo and her former label. She previously accused EeZee Tee of withholding approximately $345,000 from her digital revenue and live performances. Onyedikachukwu denied the allegations, maintaining that all financial dealings were transparent.

Amid the controversy, a federal high court in Lagos recently upheld an arrest warrant against the record label boss, with the case scheduled for further hearings on March 6. The legal disputes continue to unfold, drawing attention across Nigeria’s entertainment industry.
