Renowned Nigerian gospel filmmaker Mike Bamiloye has paid a heartfelt tribute to Moses Korede Are, popularly known as “Baba Gbenro,” following the actor’s death.
In an emotional Facebook post, Bamiloye, founder of Mount Zion Faith Ministries, recounted his last conversation with Korede Are before the actor’s hospitalization. “When he was being taken to the hospital and we spoke on the phone, he said, ‘Please, greet my friend for me. Daddy, I will be well. Don’t let this discourage you from calling me to film locations.’”
Bamiloye praised Korede Are’s unwavering dedication to gospel drama. The actor was actively filming Abejoye Season 8 and Abattoir 5 when his health suddenly deteriorated. Reflecting on the lessons from his passing, Bamiloye wrote, “We never knew he was rounding off his assignment in the vineyard. The Master called him home and said, ‘It is closing time.’”
Describing Korede Are’s death as "heaven’s gain," Bamiloye remarked, “He died here and woke up there eternally. He rests now from movie shoots and the many lines he had to learn.”
Korede Are, best known for his role as Baba Gbenro in the Abattoir series, left an indelible mark on Christian cinema. His passing, announced by fellow actor Oluwaseun Adejumobi, has drawn an outpouring of grief and tributes from fans and colleagues alike.
The late actor is remembered as a devoted servant of God whose life and work inspired many. May his soul rest in peace.
