The Nigerian military has reaffirmed its commitment to eliminating notorious bandit leader Bello Turji, assuring that he is currently being tracked. Chief of Defence Operations, Major General Emeka Onumajuru, made this known during an interview on The Morning Brief on Monday, stating that Turji is in hiding and will soon be neutralized.

Onumajuru dismissed any speculation about a standoff between the military and the bandits, emphasizing that the Armed Forces are closely monitoring Turji’s movements. He urged Nigerians to remain patient, acknowledging that tracking high-profile criminals can take time but assuring that the operation will soon be successful.

Meanwhile, reports indicate that Turji has been imposing levies on residents in parts of Sokoto State, particularly in the Isa Local Government Area. A state lawmaker, Honourable Aminu Almustapha Boza, confirmed that the bandit leader is extorting money from villagers.

Reacting to this, Major General Onumajuru strongly advised residents not to pay the illegal levies, assuring them of military protection. He urged communities to trust the Armed Forces, stating that security personnel are deployed to safeguard lives and properties.

The military’s latest statement comes amid growing concerns over banditry in the North, with many citizens calling for decisive action. Security forces continue to intensify efforts to dismantle criminal networks in the region.

With increased surveillance and military operations, authorities remain confident that Turji’s reign of terror will soon come to an end.
