Nigerian military confirms 22 soldiers killed during a clearance operation targeting the Timbuktu Triangle terrorist stronghold in the North-East. Despite heavy casualties, over 70 terrorists, including key commanders, were neutralized. The operation also thwarted several terrorist attacks, including drone strikes and improvised explosive devices (IEDs).

In a significant military operation in Nigeria's northeast, 22 soldiers were confirmed dead during an assault on the Timbuktu Triangle, a known terrorist stronghold. The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) revealed that the operation, which began on January 25, aimed to dismantle terrorist networks in the region. Despite the casualties, the troops succeeded in neutralizing over 70 terrorists, including three high-ranking commanders: Talha, Mallam Umar, and Abu Yazeed.

The operation involved multiple encounters with the militants, who deployed various tactics such as Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and drone attacks. However, the troops managed to thwart these efforts, shooting down amateur drones and countering suicide bombers. The military's resilience in the face of these challenges was acknowledged, as they continued their fight against insurgency.

The 15-year-long conflict has resulted in over 40,000 deaths and displaced nearly two million people in the region.
