Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, declared a decisive move to eradicate the operation of tricycles, commonly known as Keke Napep, from key areas in Abuja. Wike assured the public that this action aims to combat not only transportation challenges but also the notorious issue of one-chance incidents in Nigeria's capital.

Wike outlined his plans to introduce buses and taxis, which will soon navigate the routes in Asokoro and Maitama, offering an alternative to the phased-out Keke Napep. The Minister emphasized that this strategic shift aims to enhance public safety, as some Keke Napep operators have allegedly become conduits for criminal activities.

During an address to Estate Developers and Residents' Associations in the Federal Capital Territory, Wike urged residents to cooperate with the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) by fulfilling their tax obligations. He expressed the belief that the introduction of buses and taxis would encourage commuters to travel from their residential areas to work, fostering a more efficient and secure transportation system.

Acknowledging the inconvenience this change may bring, Wike emphasized the necessity of facing the challenge head-on for the greater good of the community. As the FCT prepares to roll out its revamped transportation system, the Minister remains steadfast in his commitment to creating a safer and more reliable commuting experience for the residents of Asokoro and Maitama.
