During a ministerial screening session, Balarabe Abbas Lawal, a nominee, collapsed, prompting Senate President Godswill Akpabio to provide an update on his condition. Balarabe was the second nominee to undergo screening and collapsed about 15 minutes into the process as Kaduna South Senator Sunday Marshall Katung discussed Balarabe's administrative experience in Kaduna.
As Balarabe finished presenting his profile, Senator Katung expressed support for his ministerial nomination on behalf of all three senators from the state. However, before Senator Katung could complete his remarks, the nominee collapsed, and Akpabio immediately called for water and sugar.
Akpabio subsequently ordered journalists and cameras to leave the Senate chamber, halting the live streaming of the screening. He later explained that Balarabe had admitted feeling exhausted due to days of overwork before the screening.
Despite Balarabe's insistence that he was fine and wanted to continue the screening, the Senate president decided to call the last nominee, Ayodele Olawande, for screening
