A driver narrowly escaped death on Monday morning when a 40-foot container fell onto his Toyota Camry at Mile 2, Lagos. The incident, which occurred around 8 a.m., saw the heavy container land directly on the car as it was heading to Apapa Ports. Eyewitnesses reported the accident, but fortunately, the driver was rescued by emergency teams including the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA).

The driver was quickly rushed to the hospital for medical attention. Police officers from the Kirikiri Police Division provided security, ensuring the emergency teams could work without disturbance. By 9:30 a.m., the scene was being cleared, with efforts underway to remove the container and ease the resulting traffic congestion.

LASTMA’s General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, emphasized the importance of securing containers properly, stating that failure to do so could lead to devastating accidents. He urged truck drivers and owners to follow road safety regulations strictly to prevent such incidents in the future. LASTMA continues to work alongside other agencies to ensure safer road conditions across Lagos.
