The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has resumed collecting access gate fees at Abuja’s Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport after a temporary suspension due to road construction. The move aligns with the government’s directive to enforce toll payments for all users, including top officials, to improve revenue and infrastructure.
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has reinstated the collection of access gate fees at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja. The process resumed on February 8, following a temporary suspension on January 24 due to road construction at the airport, which caused disruptions for motorists.
FAAN expressed gratitude to the public for their patience during the suspension and reaffirmed its commitment to improving airport infrastructure. The reinstatement aligns with the federal government’s directive to enforce toll payments at airports, a move initially announced by Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo in 2024. The directive mandates that all airport users, including top government officials, must pay access fees.
To enhance efficiency, FAAN had previously introduced an e-tag system for toll payments, allowing seamless access for registered users. However, motorists without e-tags can still make cash payments at the toll gates. The agency emphasized that these fees are necessary to boost revenue generation and maintain airport facilities.
