Jose Mourinho received a three-match ban and a fine following a post-match altercation with Galatasaray coach Okan Buruk after Fenerbahce's 2-1 loss in the Turkish Cup. Mourinho's suspension will cause him to miss key Super Lig matches as Fenerbahce trails Galatasaray by six points.

Jose Mourinho, the manager of Fenerbahce, has been handed a three-match ban following an altercation with Galatasaray's coach, Okan Buruk, after a contentious Istanbul derby on April 2, 2025. Fenerbahce lost 2-1 in the Turkish Cup quarterfinal, and post-match tensions escalated, leading to a scuffle between players and staff from both teams.

Mourinho approached Buruk from behind and appeared to pinch his nose, causing the Galatasaray coach to stumble and cover his face. Galatasaray filed a complaint accusing Mourinho of physical assault, but a criminal case was dismissed by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office. In light of the incident, the Professional Football Disciplinary Board imposed a reduced suspension for Mourinho, considering Buruk’s actions as a factor. Along with the suspension, Mourinho was fined 292,500 Turkish Lira (approximately £5,955).

Mourinho’s suspension will see him miss critical Super Lig matches against Trabzonspor, Sivasspor, and Kayserispor, with Fenerbahce trailing leaders Galatasaray by six points. Despite the controversy, Fenerbahce has stood by Mourinho, emphasizing his relentless drive and leadership. The club’s board praised Mourinho’s ambition and determination, describing the incident as an orchestrated provocation and reinforcing their support for their manager.
