MultiChoice Nigeria has announced a price increase for DStv and GOtv subscriptions, effective March 1, 2025. The company attributes the hike to inflation and naira depreciation. The adjustment affects all packages, with DStv Premium rising to ₦44,500 and GOtv Supa Plus now ₦16,800, sparking backlash from subscribers.
MultiChoice Nigeria has announced another round of price increases for its DStv and GOtv subscription packages, set to take effect on March 1, 2025. The company cited rising operational costs, inflation, and the depreciation of the naira as key reasons for the adjustment.
According to the updated pricing structure, DStv Compact will now cost ₦19,000, up from ₦15,700, while Compact Plus jumps to ₦30,000. The Premium package will see the steepest increase, rising to ₦44,500.
For GOtv users, the Smallie plan will now cost ₦3,900 (previously ₦3,600), while GOtv Plus increases from ₦4,850 to ₦5,800. The GOtv Max package will be priced at ₦8,500, Supa at ₦11,400, and Supa Plus at ₦16,800.
This marks the second price increase within a year, a move that is likely to spark backlash from Nigerian subscribers already struggling with the high cost of living. Many have taken to social media to express frustration, accusing MultiChoice of pricing out low-income customers and exploiting loyal users.
Despite the anticipated criticism, MultiChoice defended the hike, stating that it is necessary to continue delivering quality local and international content through state-of-the-art technology.
Consumer rights groups, however, have urged regulators to intervene, warning that repeated price hikes could make premium entertainment inaccessible to many Nigerians.
As March 1 approaches, subscribers will be watching closely to see if MultiChoice offers any incentives or discounts to cushion the impact of the latest adjustment.
