The EFCC has arrested former Akwa Ibom Governor Udom Emmanuel over alleged mismanagement of N700 billion. A petition claims his administration received N3 trillion but left the state with N500 billion debt and unfinished projects worth N300 billion. Social media reactions demand accountability as investigations continue.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has taken former Akwa Ibom Governor Udom Emmanuel into custody over allegations of financial misconduct involving N700 billion.

Sources indicate that Emmanuel arrived at the EFCC headquarters in Abuja around 12:30 pm on Tuesday in response to an invitation concerning accusations of money laundering, fund diversion, and theft. These allegations were raised by the Network Against Corruption and Trafficking (NCAT), a civil society group.

According to the petition, Emmanuel’s administration reportedly managed N3 trillion in revenue from the Federation Account during his eight-year tenure. However, concerns arose over an alleged N500 billion debt burden left on the state and unfinished projects valued at N300 billion. An audit of the state’s finances allegedly uncovered a mismanagement trail, with N700 billion reportedly unaccounted for.

The case has sparked widespread reactions on social media, with many Nigerians expressing outrage over the alleged financial discrepancies. Some have called for stricter punishments for corruption, particularly for public officials accused of mismanaging state funds. The EFCC is expected to continue its investigations as the legal process unfolds.
