NAFDAC has destroyed ₦1.3 billion worth of counterfeit, expired, and substandard products, including drugs, hospital equipment, and food items, at the Kuje dumpsite in Abuja. The agency emphasized its commitment to protecting public health, with products voluntarily surrendered by local and international organizations also being destroyed.

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has taken decisive action against counterfeit and expired products in Abuja. On January 23, 2025, the agency destroyed goods valued at ₦1.3 billion. The items were primarily substandard drugs, cosmetics, food products, and medical equipment, all deemed harmful to public health.

Led by Festus Ukadike, a representative of NAFDAC's Director General, Professor Moji Adeyeye, the operation took place at the Kuje dump site in Abuja. NAFDAC emphasized its commitment to eliminating substandard goods from the market to ensure the safety of Nigerians. In addition to the confiscated items, expired food products were voluntarily handed over by international and local organizations, including the World Food Programme (WFP), and subsequently destroyed.

This initiative highlights NAFDAC's ongoing efforts to combat the circulation of dangerous and ineffective products in the Nigerian market. The agency has been consistently active in ensuring public health protection by conducting such operations nationwide. Through efforts like these, NAFDAC aims to improve the overall safety of products in Nigeria, preventing the spread of harmful goods that pose a threat to the welfare of citizens.
