NAFDAC has raided and shut down a Lagos factory producing counterfeit cosmetics, seizing over 1,200 cartons of fake products and unregistered chemicals valued at ₦50 million. The agency urges consumers to report suspicious activities to ensure safety and compliance in the cosmetics market.

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has successfully shut down a factory in Lagos that was allegedly producing counterfeit cosmetic products. This operation took place at Benue Plaza within the Trade Fair Complex, where NAFDAC officials discovered a large quantity of unregistered chemicals, expired items, and packaging materials intended for illegal sale.

During the raid, over 1,200 cartons of counterfeit cosmetics, including popular brands, were seized. Investigations revealed that the factory was using mini-mixing containers and unlabelled chemicals to manufacture these fraudulent products, raising serious concerns about consumer safety. The estimated value of the confiscated items is approximately ₦50 million.

In an official statement, NAFDAC reiterated its commitment to safeguarding consumers and urged the public to be cautious when buying cosmetic products. They encouraged individuals to report any suspicious activities related to counterfeit goods to their nearest office.

This raid is part of NAFDAC’s broader efforts to tackle the proliferation of substandard products in the market and to ensure the health and safety of consumers. As investigations continue, the agency aims to reinforce its mandate to protect public health and promote the use of genuine products.
