NAFDAC has recalled Dove Beauty Cream Bar Soap (100g), batch number 81832M 08, produced in Germany, due to Butylphenyl Methylpropional (Lilial), a harmful chemical linked to reproductive health risks. Consumers are advised to stop using the product and return it to NAFDAC offices for disposal.

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has announced the recall of Dove Beauty Cream Bar Soap (100g), specifically batch number 81832M 08, manufactured in Germany. The recall is due to the detection of Butylphenyl Methylpropional, commonly referred to as Lilial, which poses significant health risks.

NAFDAC highlighted that this chemical has been banned in cosmetic products because of its potential to adversely affect reproductive health and the safety of unborn children. The agency emphasized that Lilial is also associated with allergic reactions and skin sensitization in some individuals.

In an official statement, NAFDAC informed the public about the recall, reiterating that the product failed to meet the Cosmetic Products Regulation standards due to the presence of this hazardous ingredient. Regulatory bodies in the European Union have already prohibited the sale of products containing Lilial.

NAFDAC also noted that other Dove products, such as Derma Spa and Men Care lines, have faced similar bans in different countries because of the same chemical impurity. The agency urged the public to exercise caution and vigilance regarding the distribution and use of these products, advising anyone in possession of the recalled soap to cease its use immediately and return it to the nearest NAFDAC office.

Additionally, NAFDAC has encouraged health professionals and consumers to report any adverse reactions related to the use of cosmetic products to their offices. This proactive approach aims to ensure public safety and compliance with health regulations.
