NAFDAC employees, represented by the Senior Staff Association of Statutory Corporations and Government-Owned Companies (SSASCGOC), have begun an indefinite strike due to unresolved welfare and promotion issues. Key demands include a review of promotion exam results, the appointment of directors, and settlement of salary arrears.
Employees at the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) have launched an indefinite strike due to unresolved welfare issues. The Senior Staff Association of Statutory Corporations and Government-Owned Companies (SSASCGOC), part of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), announced the strike following a lack of response from management to their concerns.
Among the primary demands are a review of the 2024 promotion exam results, the appointment of directors for key positions, and an overhaul of the promotion examination content. Additionally, the workers are seeking the establishment of a psychology officer role, the payment of overdue burial expenses, life insurance coverage, and the resolution of salary arrears dating back to 2022.
Ejor Michael, secretary of the TUC, stated that the decision to strike came after a 14-day ultimatum issued on September 20, 2024, was ignored by the agency. Despite discussions during a congress on October 4, no agreement was reached, leading to the strike that commenced on October 7, 2024.
The union has directed all members to stop their duties, clear their workspaces, and refrain from entering any NAFDAC premises during the strike. The SSASCGOC emphasized that the strike will continue until all specified demands are met, citing the management's inaction as intolerable and urging solidarity among employees.
