NAMA has grounded Arik Air’s aircraft due to a $2.5 million debt dispute with Atlas Petroleum. Following a court order, the airline's planes were attached to enforce payment. Despite previous appeals being dismissed, NAMA is ensuring compliance with the Supreme Court's ruling. Arik's CEO warns of economic impact.

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NAMA) has grounded multiple Arik Air aircraft due to a $2.5 million debt dispute with Atlas Petroleum International Ltd. The decision follows a federal high court order from July 19, 2024, enforcing a judgment against Arik for the unpaid amount.

Despite an appeal to the Supreme Court, Arik's request for leave to appeal was denied earlier this year. NAMA has complied with the court’s order to attach the airline’s aircraft, including models B737-700, B737-800, and DASH8-Q400, to ensure they remain within the jurisdiction of the court.

Arik Air’s CEO, Roy Ilegbodu, criticized the sudden enforcement, warning it could negatively impact the airline and the broader economy. NAMA has called for a swift resolution to allow the grounded aircraft to resume operations.
