Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has denied allegations of financial misappropriation during his tenure, vowing to swear by the Quran to prove his innocence. Accused of mismanaging N423 billion, El-Rufai insists his political career is built on integrity and hinted at a potential political comeback in 2027.

Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has refuted allegations of corruption during his administration, asserting his willingness to swear by the Quran to prove his innocence. Speaking on a Hausa program aired by Freedom Radio in Kaduna on October 1, 2024, El-Rufai emphasized that his entry into politics was motivated by a desire to serve the people rather than accumulate wealth.

He stressed that before taking office, he was content with his financial standing and did not engage in corrupt practices. El-Rufai further challenged former Kaduna governors and political leaders to join him in swearing by the Quran if they were similarly innocent.

The former governor expressed his frustration with the ongoing accusations but noted that he has instructed his lawyers to take legal action against those attempting to tarnish his reputation. While vowing to remain silent on the issue for now, El-Rufai is focused on personal pursuits, including reading and writing.

The allegations stem from a report by the Kaduna State House of Assembly, which accused El-Rufai's administration of misappropriating N423 billion during his eight-year tenure. Several members of his former cabinet dismissed the report, calling it politically motivated.

Looking ahead, El-Rufai hinted at a political comeback in 2027, stating that "there is no retirement in politics."
