Nasir El-Rufai resigns from the APC and joins the Social Democratic Party (SDP), citing a divergence of values. El-Rufai criticized APC leadership and expressed disappointment with President Tinubu's administration. His decision has sparked discussions about Nigeria’s political future, especially with 2027 elections approaching.

Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State, has announced his resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and his decision to join the Social Democratic Party (SDP). El-Rufai, a founding member of the APC, explained that his values no longer aligned with the party’s current trajectory. He expressed disappointment with the APC's leadership, noting that despite raising concerns privately and publicly, the party had failed to address the issues that troubled him.

In his resignation statement, El-Rufai stated that he had hoped to continue working within the APC to further the progressive ideals it was founded on, but recent developments had made it clear that the party had strayed from those principles. He urged his supporters to join him in the SDP, where he believes they can continue to fight for the values they hold dear.

The former minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) had previously criticized the APC, especially after his ministerial nomination was rejected by the National Assembly. He had also pointed out that the party had become too centralized and was being run like a "one-man show" under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu.
