In a recent political clash, Kogi Central Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan issued a public apology to former Minister of Education Oby Ezekwesili after a heated exchange with Senator Onyekachi Nwaebonyi at a Senate committee hearing. The altercation occurred while the committee was reviewing a petition filed by Akpoti-Uduaghan against Senate President Godswill Akpabio. The petition includes serious allegations of sexual harassment by Akpabio.

During the hearing, Ezekwesili, who was attending as a witness, was repeatedly interrupted by Nwaebonyi, the Senate’s deputy chief whip. Tensions escalated when Ezekwesili, frustrated by the interruptions, urged Nwaebonyi to “compose himself” and “stop making noise,” prompting an angry outburst from him. Nwaebonyi responded with insults, calling Ezekwesili a “fool” and accusing her of being “an insult to womanhood,” which further ignited the tension.

Akpoti-Uduaghan, who is currently undergoing a recall process initiated by some constituents, took to social media to express her support for Ezekwesili, acknowledging the personal insults the former minister endured during the hearing. In her apology, Akpoti-Uduaghan praised Ezekwesili for her integrity and leadership, referring to her as “a true icon of integrity, courage, and visionary leadership.” She also celebrated Ezekwesili’s relentless commitment to good governance, education, and democracy, affirming her admiration for the former minister’s resilience and contributions to the nation.
