Nigeria's national power grid collapsed again on October 19, 2024, marking the third breakdown in a week and the 11th blackout this year. Data indicates all 22 generation companies were offline, exacerbating ongoing challenges in the power sector. The Transmission Company of Nigeria has yet to confirm the incident.

On October 19, 2024, Nigeria's national power grid collapsed for the third time in just seven days, marking a troubling 8th blackout in 2024. This significant failure has raised concerns among residents who have faced repeated power outages throughout the year.

According to data from the Nigerian System Operator's portal (niggrid.org), the grid registered an alarming zero megawatts (MW) between 8:45 AM and the time of this report. At this point, all 22 generation companies (GenCos) were reported to be offline, further exacerbating the crisis.

This latest collapse is the eight significant grid disturbance this year, highlighting the persistent issues plaguing Nigeria's power sector. Despite the widespread implications of this blackout, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has yet to provide an official confirmation or details regarding the cause and potential resolution of the situation.

As Nigerians continue to voice their frustrations on social media, some are questioning the assurances previously given by the Minister of Power, who claimed that the national grid would not face any major setbacks. The current crisis has left many feeling uncertain about the reliability of the country's electricity supply.
