Senator Ali Ndume has cautioned President Tinubu against over-relying on elite political endorsements, reminding him that 22 governors backed Jonathan in 2015, and he still lost.
  • Despite being present at the Villa, Ndume says he didn’t endorse Tinubu for 2027.
  • Recalls 2015, when 22 PDP governors endorsed Jonathan, who still lost to Buhari.
  • Warns that public sentiment, not endorsements, determines elections.
  • Says Nigerians “cannot see any hope” under current conditions.

“I pity Mr President,” Ndume stated during Channels TV’s Sunday Politics, reflecting on how “22 governors endorsed Jonathan, yet he lost woefully.” According to him, while he attended the event at the Presidential Villa, he walked out once he realised it was a political endorsement, not a policy summit.

“Things are very bad in the country,” Ndume stressed. “People are not decamping, it’s the politicians that are doing that.” He suggested that Tinubu’s camp should learn from history instead of repeating it.

The senator’s remarks strike at the heart of political complacency in the face of rising public frustration. Endorsements may win headlines, but not necessarily votes.
