On July 6, 2024, the national power grid experienced yet another collapse, plunging the entire country into darkness.

The failure occurred around 3 pm, affecting multiple states and leaving millions without electricity.

The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) confirmed the incident, announcing that all its interface stations with the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) were out of supply.
This disruption impacted customers in Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo states.

EEDC's Head of Corporate Communications, Emeka Ezeh, issued a statement detailing the situation. "The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company wishes to inform its esteemed customers of a general system collapse which occurred at 15:09 hours today, 6th July 2024.

This marks the fifth time this year that the national power grid has collapsed, sparking widespread frustration among Nigerians. Many citizens are questioning why this recurring issue has not been resolved, with social media flooded with complaints and calls for accountability.

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) described the frequent national grid shutdowns as a serious concern, emphasizing the critical need for robust security measures to safeguard public assets.

Residents across affected states expressed their dismay, with some lamenting prolonged outages that disrupt daily life and business operations.

The EEDC's announcement has prompted a wave of reactions, with many demanding swift and effective action to prevent future occurrences.
