The Federal Government has issued a stern warning to power Distribution Companies (DisCos) threatening to revoke their licenses due to the persistent challenges of epileptic power supply across the nation.
The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, announced this ultimatum on Wednesday, March 6, highlighting the summoning of the Chief Executives of key DisCos and the Managing Director of the Transmission Company of Nigeria for a crucial meeting. Adelabu emphasized the urgent need to discuss and address the worsening power supply situation, attributing the issues to certain DisCos' failure to efficiently distribute power supplied by TCN and the aggravating impact of vandalism on power infrastructure in various regions.
The Minister reaffirmed his commitment to holding all distribution companies accountable, asserting that "willful non-performance will not be tolerated," and severe consequences, including license revocation, may be imposed.
Adelabu also outlined ongoing efforts to enhance power generation, prioritize infrastructure repairs, and settle outstanding debts owed to power generation and gas supply companies. He urged patience from electricity consumers as the government strives to improve services nationwide.
