The Northern Christians Accord (NCA) has urged the EFCC to investigate ex-Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai over alleged corruption. The Kaduna Assembly indicted him for public funds mismanagement. NCA issued a 48-hour ultimatum, threatening protests if EFCC fails to act. El-Rufai has yet to respond.
The Northern Christians Accord (NCA) has called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, following his indictment by the Kaduna State House of Assembly.
In a statement released on Thursday, NCA leaders Gideon Jato and Sunday Adoka expressed disappointment over EFCC’s silence on the case, despite allegations of public funds mismanagement and money laundering against El-Rufai. The Kaduna Assembly had, on June 5, 2024, recommended a probe into his administration’s handling of state finances.
The group also pointed out that two of El-Rufai’s former cabinet members, Mohammed Bashir Sa’idu and Jimi Lawal, are currently in detention over corruption-related charges. They argued that failing to take action against the former governor undermines accountability and disrespects the authority of the state legislature.
NCA has issued a 48-hour ultimatum for EFCC and other anti-corruption agencies to arrest and prosecute El-Rufai. They warned that failure to act would result in a mass protest at the EFCC headquarters.
El-Rufai, who governed Kaduna from 2015 to 2023, has faced increasing scrutiny over his financial dealings while in office. While he has yet to respond to the latest allegations, his indictment by the Kaduna Assembly has intensified calls for a full investigation.
With growing public pressure, all eyes are now on EFCC’s next move regarding the former governor’s alleged financial misconduct.
