The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has suspended MaxAir's domestic operations for three months starting January 31, 2025, following a tyre burst incident on one of its planes at Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport. The suspension will allow for safety and economic audits before the airline resumes operations.

The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has imposed a three-month suspension on MaxAir’s domestic flight services starting from January 31, 2025. This decision follows an incident that occurred on January 28, 2025, at Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, when one of MaxAir’s aircraft experienced a tyre burst during landing.

The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has been tasked with investigating the cause of the incident, with the NCAA providing full support for the investigation. Meanwhile, MaxAir will use the suspension period to undergo an internal review of its operations.

In addition to MaxAir’s internal assessment, the NCAA will conduct comprehensive safety and financial audits to ensure that the airline meets the required standards for safe and sustainable operations. These audits will examine the airline’s organizational procedures, personnel, and financial health.

MaxAir’s domestic flights will only resume after the NCAA is satisfied with the results of the audits. The NCAA has expressed concern about the inconvenience this suspension may cause to passengers but emphasized that the safety and well-being of travelers remain the top priority.
